Keith Brincorn remembers..

Not everything we touched turned to gold. The long tradition of Lower 6th Form Revues was broken in 1969 - with three weeks to go it was deemed that our sense of humour and thespian skills would not transfer well to the stage.. in short, our material and acting was crap. We had the last laugh though, quickly putting together our third Folk Evening for what would have been the last night of the aborted revue.

It was quite a weekend in Walthamstow, as the Friday night had seen a local college gig by Roy Harper, the Young Tradition and Davy Graham. On the Saturday evening we covered the stage with a beautiful drape made up of the curtains from the Prefects' Room. Ken Punshon and the stage crew rustled up some red, blue and yellow spotlights.

Hratch was supposed to top the bill again, but was unfortunately but forgiveably double booked, leaving the way open for up-and-coming sensation Keith Christmas to take centre stage. He was a regular visitor to Bunjies, usually remembered for his comedy songs there, but tonight over two sets, he demonstrated his versatility, and particularly won over the audience with his epic acoustic rendition of Cat's Squirrel, which met with rapturous applause at the end of the first half, and was repeated by popular demand at the end of the evening!

Well over 100 attended. Keith was paid the princely sum of £12-0-0d, about one third of the takings. The profit went to Christian Aid.

Other musical highlights:

Colin & Terry:  Log Cabin Home in the Sky, She's the One, The Boxer, Meet on the Ledge

(in memory of recently deceased Fairport drummer Martin Lamble).

Cliff, Kev & John:   The Weight, Scarborough Fair, Three Ravens, Summertime.

Keith Christmas:  Bed-Sit Two-Step, I know you Babe you can't lose, Trial & Judgment,
It doesn't pay to be Hip.
