Keith Brincorn remembers..
"... And at school, would you believe... 600 boys and no girls at all.." A misfortune partially allayed by the lunchtime Folk Club, which met every Thursday from late 1967 alternating between the Boys' and Girls' School. It was therefore natural that the Girls' School in Colworth Road should host our second concert.
A different ambience but another full house, again featuring Hratch supported by the usual suspects, plus Mac, Denny and Rick, a good-time band from the Tunc Folk Club based at the Rose & Crown, Walthamstow. They played an assortment of stringed instruments and percussion, encompassing flamenco, trad folk, jugband and blues. Diane was MC. Colin gave his first documented public performance of "Christabel", inspired by H.G.Wells' Mr.Polly, dedicated to Peter, and soon to give its name to the first formal incarnation of the organisation that brings you this website. Hratch was on top form as ever, bringing the evening to a glorious singalong close with "I'll be Your Baby Tonight."
The music also included:
Mac, Denny & Rick: Needle of Death, Mary had a Little Lamb Blues, Ballad of Jack Hall.
Colin & Terry: Puppies, Suzanne, Once I was, Fitting You (get it?), Hair.
Hratch: For Emily, Drifter's Escape, Beleeka Doodle Day.
